LazyVim? Good or bad idea?

I recently started to use vim and fiddled around with creating my own configs and others. Soon I found out that this takes a lot of time to get right. Also everyone on the internet seems to have a very personal opinion on how to create and organize their plugins. This gets confusing and leaves you with a big hill to climb.

I have had mixed experience with predefined configurations using various tmux configs such as .oh-my-tmux which is quite good but obviously opinionated and ended up being not the config for me. However, I had used it for several years, so it was not that bad!

Having recently rewritten my tmux configuration from scratch, I initially decided to do the same with my NeoVIM config. However two days in, I made a 180 turn and opted to try to go with LazyVim first. LazyVim not as in the plugin manager, but the NeoVIM configuration from the same team. LazyVim opts to utlilze their plugin manager and adds a lot of features right out of the box. One of my gripes with predefined configs is, that they’re all opinionated and require a lot of learning. However they have added some very cool plugins, that help you learning the config on the go, which is a huge plus.

I think I’ll stop investing any more time in optimizing my config for now until I know better what I want and what I dont want. Time will tell. ;)

Why is this worth a blog post, you might ask yourself. I read multiple blog posts, debating back and forth and simply wanted to add my two cents and thought process in case you might find this text.
